If you have been using Twitter more than a day or two, you have probably come to the realization that there’s more to it than meets the eye. What on the surface looks like a piece of cake, upon further examination is more complicated than you thought.

Because I want to know how to use Twitter to enhance my business, I bought about every program out there. A lot of the information contained in most of the programs is repetitive and is freely available on the internet if you just take the time to research.

It is important before you go running off in a helter-skelter manner and just blindly add followers, to take a minute and step back and look at your goals for Twitter usage. You do have a reason for using Twitter don’t you?

You may not want everyone and their dog to be following you and likewise you may not want to follow everyone and their dog! Depends on your objectives. If you will notice, some of the “gurus” have a very select list of people they follow, and they won’t follow you back.

You may want to develop a small select group that you interact with. Not everyone wants or needs thousands of followers, again depends on your objectives. One of the most comprehensive products I found that was most helpful, was Twitter Manifesto. I felt it gave me the most bang for the buck.

Now if you are a businessman/businesswoman and are really serious about learning how to use Twitter, you can’t go wrong with Twitter Power System. It’s more expensive but has a lot more detail. Everything from helping you determine your Twitter goals, how Twitter interfaces with social media, and how to use Twitter for business. As the name implies, this is a system and like everything else in internet marketing, if you don’t have a system, you’re screwed. That’s a little blunt but it is a fact.

If I had one word of advice, it would be go slowly at first, get grounded in the fundamentals, then go for it. Twitter and Web 2.0 is powerful if you know how to use it.
